    The location

Our room was tired and dated, very dreary! The food was average.

Lovely country hotel set in rolling hills of Wales. Good walks down the country lanes. Restaurant offers tasty, hearty meals. Very pleasant terrace garden to enjoy the ambient afternoon sun. The large bedroom had a quaint 4 poster bed with canopy and a sitting area. The staff were very friendly and obliging, even doing laundry as a bag wash where the service is not usually offered.

The windows could do with a sun-proof lining to block out the bright early morning sun. The bed although a quant 4 poster canopy bed was only double in size and too short for my 180cm husband. Bathroom had only a hand held faucet in a large bath so showering had to be done whilst sitting.

The rooms are furnished with comfort in mind. Amidst the country fields in a quiet location, it was a pleasure to return each evening and enjoy a drink in the lounge followed by a great dinner. Absolutely beautiful food!! Phillippe was a great host. Breakfast was fabulous!! The spacious rooms are decorated in country florals and soft colours. Plenty of seating in the rooms etc. Loved the tea/coffee and the gorgeous biscuits. Best was hearing the sheep baaing while we slept with the window open. A short 15 minute drive to llangollen and close to chirk castle it was easy to get around. Highly recommended.

Only one thing needs improving and that is the water pressure and bathroom hardware.

Friendly and helpful staff (owners ?). Very comfortable and big room. Jacuzzi in bathroom. Food good. Big parking.

A bit too quiet. The first night we were the only guests in the restaurant. (Second night we ate in the pub). A bit dated. Needs redecoration (not only painting over existing wallpaper). Not easy to find. (Do not trust your GPS).Not really a village pub. Only other customers were 2 guests.

The food at this hotel was well above excellent. It rates in my top 3 places to eat in the world. I cannot say enough about the quality of the food. I was compelled to actully speak to the Chef and congratulate him on the food. The room we had was excellent, lots of space and very comfortable. I would be happy to return to this hotel and highly recommend it to anyone.

I was very grateful to the staff when the chef offered to drive us into LLangolen in order to get to my cousin's wedding when there were no taxis available. Top marks to all of them for this :-) Thank you very much!!!!

We loved this hotel and think we were very lucky to find it. It's a beautiful old building in an idylic country valley. We had two beautiful rooms one of which was very spacious with lovely views over the attractive garden and up the valley. The staff here were extremely friendly and helpful, the food was fantastic, the lounge was comfortable and the bar, which had a cosy fire burning, was well stocked with all manner of drinks including coffee and a wide range of teas. When we asked about local walks we were given written detailed directions for a very good nearby walk. We would not have been able to find the walk without those directions. I'm sure they had information ready for other walks and activities. We were sorry to leave this lovely place and only wish we could have stayed longer. If I lived closer I would definitely be back for weekends whenever I could.

Staff very friendly, some very good views

The bar sometimes closes early, the dinner menu could be more varied each day

Location was excellent, although a long way from Langollen (perhaps my mistake). Very peaceful, spacious bedroom.

The hotel was in a time warp and felt very tired and in desparate need of upgrading. Decoration was poor, but uninspiring. Peeling wallpaper in bathroom etc. Bathroom suite was 1970's coloured. Carpets were loose and needed stretching. Food was fair but uninspiring and didn't appear to use local poduce. The place was very quiet - in a 'dead' sense!

Location is beautiful and the view from the rooms looking down the valley are stunning

Very quiet, little ambience or atmosphere, staff inexperienced but nevertheless helpful.

We were the only guests, Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is situated in beautiful countryside , the exterior and interior decor was charming and our evening meal with invited guests was delicious.

The situation of the hotel, with excellent walks and views-especially from our chosen room.. The peace and quiet. The young manager was anxious to please ,even though he did most of the jobs himself.

We absolutely loved the atmosphere from the moment we walked in the door and were greeted by Johanna and her son Philip. We only had one night to take in the flavor of Wales, and this was the perfect place to do that. We decided to have cocktails and eat in the beautifully decorated country pub, and we were not disappointed. The meals were delicious: welsh rarebit mushroom appetizer, butternut squash soup, lamb shank, rib eye steak. But more importantly, it was the friendly service of the staff and down-to-earth companionship of the local patrons that made our evening. We were welcomed with open arms and had such fun both telling and hearing the stories of the locals. It made Wales come alive for us!

What's not to love about the Golden Pheasant Country Inn? Perfect!

Its quiet and out of the way, food was excellent if a little limited.

The room was comfortable but in dire need of re-decoration, the whirlpool bath did not work, a fact we were only told on checking out, not when booking in.
